General Liability
General liability is the foundation of business protection, covering the third-party injury and property damage claims that can hit any operation, on the job or at your location.
What general liability covers
Coverage terms, limits, and exclusions vary by policy and carrier. We help you read the fine print.
Bodily injury
Responds when a customer, visitor, or third party is injured in connection with your business.
Property damage
Covers damage your operations cause to someone else’s property.
Products & completed operations
Protection for claims arising from your products or finished work after the job is done.
Personal & advertising injury
Covers certain claims like libel, slander, or copyright issues in your advertising.
Legal defense
Helps pay defense costs for covered claims, often a major expense even when you prevail.
Contract requirements
The coverage landlords, clients, and contracts most often require you to carry.
The coverage your business is probably required to have
Whether you sign a commercial lease, bid on a job, or work in customers’ homes, you’ll likely be asked to carry general liability, and for good reason. A single injury or property-damage claim can be costly enough to threaten a small business.
Swamp Fox helps you secure the right limits, understand what’s covered and what isn’t, and meet the requirements in your leases and contracts without overpaying.
- Certificates of insurance are routinely required. We make them easy to provide.
- Your industry and operations drive pricing and which exclusions apply.
- Adding employees or services can change your exposure and coverage needs.
Liability that fits your trade
A contractor, a retailer, and a service business face very different liability exposures, and a generic policy can miss the risks that matter most to yours.
We match your operation to carriers that understand your industry, so your coverage reflects the real work you do.
Why Swamp Fox
Independent access to multiple carriers, guidance built around real exposure, and a team that knows Southeast risk firsthand.
General liability questions
What does general liability actually cover?
It covers third-party claims, bodily injury, property damage, and certain advertising injuries, arising from your business, along with the legal defense for those claims. It does not cover your own property or employee injuries.
Is general liability required for my business?
It’s frequently required by leases, clients, and contracts, even when it’s not legally mandated. Many businesses can’t operate or bid on work without it.
What’s the difference between general liability and a BOP?
A Business Owner Policy bundles general liability with commercial property (and often more) into one package. GL on its own covers only the liability piece. We’ll help you decide which fits.
How are my premiums determined?
Carriers look at your industry, revenue, payroll, location, and claims history. We help you present your business accurately to get the best available pricing.
